Enhanced EyeSight 4.0 with an additional wide-angle monocular camera and improved stereo cameras

To meet the demands of digital natives and individuals seeking a real driver’s car that combines cutting-edge safety and technology, Subaru has introduced its Enhanced EyeSight 4.0 Driver Assist Technology in the all-new Crosstrek e-BOXER Hybrid, which qualifies as Level 2 ADAS semi-autonomous driving technology. EyeSight is Subaru's state-of-the-art advanced driver assist technology, with stereo cameras that work like a second pair of eyes for the road ahead to assist the driver and help reduce accidents.

Subaru’s award-winning preventive safety system, EyeSight, is now more intuitive than ever. Newly equipped with an innovative wide-angle monocular camera in addition to the original stereo cameras, EyeSight gets an upgrade with new features, which are especially useful in Singapore’s traffic congestion during peak hours.

The new Enhanced EyeSight 4.0’s Pre-Collision Braking function now covers even more traffic scenarios at intersections, thanks to its improved stereo cameras with coverage that has almost doubled laterally (from left to right) as well as vertically, plus the additional wide-angle monocular camera which is able to detect pedestrians and two-wheeled vehicles in an even wider area to the lateral front sides of the vehicle than the stereo cameras can.

The most advanced version of Subaru's signature safety system, the new Enhanced EyeSight 4.0 is able to help the driver look left and right, to detect obstacles and help prevent potential collisions, not only within its own lane, but at neighbouring lanes as well (e.g., vehicles travelling in the opposite direction and pedestrians crossing the road at left- or right-turn junctions).

Enhanced EyeSight 4.0 offers nine preventive safety functions, which are Lane Centering Function, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning, Autonomous Emergency Steering, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert, as well as Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control, which have been improved for even better performance.

• The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system has a Lane Centering Function. This helps to steer the Crosstrek, keeping it in the middle of the lane, whether the road is straight or slightly curved. This is in addition to the existing feature of the ACC that assists drivers in highway traffic, by keeping the Crosstrek at a safe distance from the vehicle in front, helping the driver to slow down or speed up automatically. This makes highway driving safer and easier for the driver.
• EyeSight 4.0’s Lane Departure Warning includes Lane Departure Prevention. This nudges the steering wheel slightly towards the inside of the Crosstrek’s lane when it detects that the driver is about to cross the line/lane markings inadvertently while travelling at 60km/h or more.

Another safety upgrade for the car is Driver Monitoring System (DMS) that is standard in the all-new Crosstrek e-BOXER Hybrid. The Crosstrek is also equipped with Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB), which automatically applies the brakes if needed to prevent a rearward collision while the Crosstrek is reversing at 1.5 to 15km/h.
