5 November 2016, Singapore - Asia's most anticipated annual endurance challenge, the Mediacorp Subaru Car Challenge 2016, kicked off at Ngee Ann City's Civic Plaza at 1pm this afternoon.
Returning for its 15th year, the challenge brings together 320 local participants and 80 regional participants from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The hopefuls will push their physical and mental endurance to the limit, in the hope of winning the Grand Prize of a Subaru XV 1.6 I-S worth S$69,600, without Certificate of Entitlement (COE).
In order to get their hands on the Grand Prize, contestants need to place their right palm firmly within the surface area of the palm decals and be the last one standing. They will be given a 5-minute break once every 6 hours throughout the competition.
Amidst the anticipation of this year's Challenge, visitors and supporters will get to experience exciting onsite activities such as the Subaru Public Challenge at the Subaru Booth. Visitors can experience first-hand a taste of the Challenge by taking part in their very own endurance challenge where they will be rewarded with exciting prizes.
"As we embark on the 15th year of the Challenge, I'm sure that we can look forward to a tense and fierce fight ahead," said Mr Glenn Tan, Executive Director of Tan Chong International Ltd. "Just last year, we were treated to a surprising finale when a regional contestant took home the grand prize for the very first time in our Challenge history. Anything and everything can happen, we can't wait to see how the competition pans out!"
The Family Relay Fiesta will feature a series of fun challenges that pit families against each other to win exciting prizes. Family teams will attempt to complete four stations, Memory Puzzle, Family Wheelbarrow, Tyre Hop and Subaru Public Challenge, within the fastest time. Each day, the top 5 family teams will be able to win a Mediacorp Subaru Car Challenge prize hamper worth $500.
"The intensity of the Challenge, juxtaposed against the light-hearted fun of the Family Relay Fiesta will create an exciting and memorable experience for both contestants and supporters this year. We look forward to families coming over the weekend to cheer for contestants and also take part in the games" said Ms Debra Soon, Head, Family English Segment, Mediacorp.
This year, supporters will play a crucial role which may make or break the contestants. Additional rest breaks can be given to contestants with supporters who take part in an online game at toggle.sg/carchallenge. The top 15 game scorers on the scoreboard will earn their supported participant an extra 5-minute break. The scoreboard will reset after every break and the online game will end upon the last 10 standing contestants.
In addition to being eligible for the Grand Prize, regional contestants will also compete for additional titles and cash prizes. The title of Regional Winner and a cash prize of S$1,000 will be awarded to the final standing representative of each participating region. The last standing regional contestant will win the Asian Winner title and walk away with an additional S$5,000 cash. The region whose participants have the longest combined standing time, will be awarded the Regional Team Winner title along with a cash prize of S$10,000 to be equally divided among the team.
