Singapore, 11 January 2018 – Motor Image, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles across nine countries in Asia, today launched the new Outback and XV at the Singapore Motorshow 2018. The new Outback offers customers an experience of responsive handling and luxurious comfort with rugged exterior and refined plush interiors. Built on the new Subaru Global Platform, the Subaru XV now comes equipped with EyeSight*, delivering a more confident driving experience.
"2018 marks another milestone for us as we introduce Subaru's award-winning EyeSight technology in the region and we are excited to unveil the new Outback and XV here at the Singapore Motorshow," said Mr Glenn Tan, Managing Director, Tan Chong International Limited. "The new Outback is a handsomely rugged vehicle, featuring enhanced aesthetics and functionalities that lets you reach your destination in style. We are also thrilled to finally introduce the new Subaru XV with a 2.0-litre Direct Injection Boxer Engine and an improved CVT transmission for our Singapore market which has been well-received in our other markets. These enhancements will cater to customers who are looking for the performance of an SUV and the comfort of a sedan for their everyday activities. Both models are now equipped with EyeSight and we are confident that they will exceed expectations and deliver an unparalleled driving experience."
The new Outback has a facelifted front bumper and hexagonal grille which will give it a high quality and rugged look. The turbine-shaped rims are dynamically designed and light-weight which will result in better aerodynamics.
New functionalities have been included such as USB ports in the back-centre console and additional microphones to improve voice recognition. The Outback will also have a new premium infotainment system with an eight-inch high-resolution screen, smartphone connectivity and access to today’s most popular apps with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Voice recognition capabilities will allow hands-free use, keeping everybody safe whilst reducing distractions when driving.
The Outback features an improved 2.5-Litre Boxer Engine with a new alternator which is made to improve fuel efficiency. In addition, an eight percent weight reduction was achieved due to the change of shape of the alternator.
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) now has a 7-speed manual mode and the throttle response has been improved to create a sporty acceleration feel. Changing the CVT chain to a short pitch chain has reduced noises from inside the cabin and improved fuel efficiency by approximately three percent compared to the current model.
Safety continues to be a cornerstone in all Subaru models. In addition to EyeSight, the Outback have been fitted with Steering Responsive Headlights which allows the headlight beam to move according to the direction of how the car is steered, maximising dusk visibility and safety. Front blind spot visibility has also been enhanced as a result of cameras fitted on the lower part of the front grille and side mirror which will allow the drivers to check the surrounding areas when navigating though tight spaces.
In addition to the existing line-up of exterior colours, the Outback will feature brand new exterior colours to choose from:
Representing the first full model change since the original Subaru XV was launched in 2012, this new crossover will excite drivers in a multitude of settings, from urban driving to the great outdoors. The new Subaru XV is now available in the 2.0-litre variant and equipped with the new Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This follows the 1.6-litre variant that was launched earlier in Singapore in July 2017. It is also the second model to employ the revolutionary Subaru Global Platform which will make every drive an experience with heightened levels of confidence, comfort and control.
The Subaru XV 2.0i-S will feature Direct Fuel Injection Naturally Aspirated Engine which produces 156PS at 6000rpm. The 2.0-litre Boxer Engine has been revamped, making the new engine approximately 12kg lighter and equipped with Direct Injection to deliver more power and fuel economy. The Lineartronic transmission is also 7.8kg lighter than previous models and features auto-step shift control and 7-speed manual mode function which enables the driver with greater control.
To further complement Eyesight and boost safety, passive safety in the All-New Subaru XV has also been improved as a result of the new Subaru Global Platform’s frame structure, with enhanced body strength resulting from an increased use of high-tensile steel. This enables improved energy absorption in the event of collision by 40 per cent over present models.
The new Subaru Outback and XV will be available for booking from 11th January 2018 at the Subaru Showroom in Hong Kong - Shop 4, G/F, Billion Centre, No.1 Wang Kwong Road, Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong.
The new Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology will further enhance drivers' driving experience and will be available on the Subaru Levorg, Outback and XV.
