The 2018 Mediacorp Subaru Car Challenge has crossed the six-hour mark, and 285 participants – 211 local and 74 regional, remain in the running for the Grand Prize of a brand-new Subaru XV 2.0i-S worth over S$70,000.
This number is more than last year’s 261 participants at the same time. Regional teams from Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, China and Cambodia are still standing strong with no drop-outs.
The oldest contestant, 74-year-old Na Sun Huat, from Singapore, is still going strong in the Challenge. Visually impaired Bernard Chew, 48, also from Singapore, shows no signs of flagging as well.
While temperatures were at a high of 31 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon, the humidity proved to be the real challenge for participants as well as spectators. In the late afternoon and early evening, participants experienced mainly cloudy, overcast skies, providing some relief from the afternoon heat and humidity.
