SUBARU Safety Sense

SUBARU Safety Sense*

SUBARU Safety Sense offers features to prevent collisions with vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. It also includes driving assistance functions designed to reduce driver fatigue. With features that adapt to a variety of situations, it ensures peace of mind for every driver.

* SUBARU Safety Sense is a driving support system which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving and observance of surroundings and traffic regulations. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as weather, road and vehicle conditions. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations for SUBARU Safety Sense including functions in this brochure.

Overview of Devices

The system uses a wide-angle monocular camera and a front millimetre-wave radar to monitor the road ahead. Based on this information, various functions are appropriately controlled to support safe driving across a wide range of situations.

Preventing Collisions

The wide-angle monocular camera and radar units constantly monitor the surrounding environment. When potential danger is detected, the system alerts the driver and assists in avoiding an accident.

Pre-Collision System (PCS)* Intersection collision avoidance support (left/right turn)

The system detects oncoming vehicles when turning at an intersection, as well as pedestrians and cyclists crossing from the opposite direction. If a collision risk is detected, it alerts the driver and assists with braking or automatically engages the brakes to prevent or mitigate a collision.

Pre-Collision System (PCS)* Intersection collision avoidance support (crossing vehicles)

The system detects vehicles and motorcycles approaching from the front at intersections to assist with collision avoidance. If it detects a high risk of collision, it alerts the driver with visual and audible warnings and automatically engages the brakes.

<sg-lang1>Emergency Steering Assist</sg-lang1><sg-lang2></sg-lang2><sg-lang3></sg-lang3>

Emergency Steering Assist

Emergency Steering Assist activates when there is a high risk of collision with pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, or stationary vehicles, and there is enough space within the lane to avoid the obstacle. The system assists with steering operation and brake control to help maintain vehicle stability and prevent lane departure.
<sg-lang1>Low-speed acceleration suppression</sg-lang1><sg-lang2></sg-lang2><sg-lang3></sg-lang3>

Low-speed acceleration suppression

The system detects pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles in front of the vehicle during low-speed driving. If the accelerator pedal is pressed excessively, it suppresses motor output or applies gentle braking to prevent or mitigate a collision.
* Pre-Collision System may not work in all situations. Depending on the speed difference from objects, the object’s height, and other conditions, every situation may not meet the necessary conditions for SUBARU Safety Sense to work optimally.

Reducing Driver Fatigue

Advanced technologies assist with driving operations like acceleration and steering, helping to reduce driver fatigue and stress across various driving situations.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

The system detects the vehicle ahead, maintaining a set distance and stopping as needed, making it especially useful in highway congestion or stop-and-go traffic.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA)

The system detects lane markings or road edges and issues warnings through meter displays, steering vibrations, or audible alerts when drifting occurs. If no corrective action is taken, it assists with steering to prevent lane departure.

Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)

The system helps keep the vehicle centred in its lane, even on gentle curves. If the vehicle begins to drift, steering assist will gently correct its course.

Road Sign Assist (RSA)

The system monitors road signs ahead, displaying information like the current speed limit on the meter. It is also issues visual and audible warnings if road sign indications are not followed.

Adaptive High-Beam System (AHS)

The system automatically optimises headlight distribution by shading out the areas containing preceding or oncoming traffic. This ensures optimal visibility while preventing high beams from distracting or affecting other drivers.
